COBS Bread Announces New Partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada

COBS Bread is proud to announce its new partnership and fundraising program with Breakfast Club of Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funding and services for school breakfast programs in communities across the country.

From September 11 to September 24, 2014, during COBS’ Higher Fibre for Higher Learning fundraiser, $1 from every COBS Bread Higher Fibre loaf purchased will be donated to Breakfast Club. Every $1 raised for Breakfast Club of Canada feeds one child breakfast. The goal is to raise more than $35,000 for Breakfast Club of Canada during this campaign.

COBS believes that eating wholesome, high-quality foods creates better lives. The company is also devoted to giving back to the community. “Breakfast Club is more than a charity, it’s part of a social revolution that positively impacts millions of vulnerable children by giving them the best start in life,” says Michelle Duck, National Marketing Manager, COBS Bread. Breakfast Club of Canada proudly served more than 25 million breakfasts last year. Currently, 1 in 7 Canadian children are at risk of going to school hungry; this equates to nearly 1 million children across the country.

In addition to COBS’ Higher Fibre for Higher Learning Fundraiser, COBS Bread is working to donate sandwich breads to Breakfast Club through its End of Day Giving Program. All sandwich loaves are made fresh each day on site and contain no added sugar or preservatives. “Breakfast Club of Canada is a natural fit for COBS and this bread will provide a great start to the day for thousands of children,” says Aaron Gillespie, President COBS Bread.

A recent Toronto District School Board study of 6,000 students in six middle and secondary schools showed that there is a clear link between eating a healthy breakfast and academic performance. One study showed that Grade 7 and 8 students who ate breakfast at school on most days were 10% more likely to meet or exceed provincial reading standards than those who did not have breakfast. Additionally, teaching staff reported a gain of 30 minutes of effective teaching time every day thanks to the Breakfast Club of Canada.
